Volunteering with AfrYPoD was a remarkable opportunity to work with a youthful and passionate team who set the pace to promoting sustainable development and accountable leadership as well as empower young people to drive this change.
I volunteered with AfrYPoD for two months. I had an amazing experience learning, even as I gained visibility in the nonprofit community in-country. My time at AfrYPoD made up for my need for opportunity to contribute to interventions that improve health and social development.
While with AfrYPoD I worked on the Generational Advocacy by Youth to end FGM in Nigeria (GAYEF). I also supported other activities in vaccine advocacy, family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention. I participated in technical meetings and was part of the committee that planned and held a successful national conference.
These roles strengthened my understanding of advocacy strategies and activities; Especially collaboration and engagement with government officials and other stakeholders and partners. I learnt to deliver timely, well-crafted advocacy messages that tackle limiting circumstances which hinder knowledge and access to life saving health interventions.
My success stories include online advocacy campaign for 16 days of activism against gender based violence and HIV prevention conference which reached millions of people via social media.
All of these are valuable experience for me. I am proud to say that AfrYPoD offers a positive work environment that stimulate and foster good relationships with colleagues. I guess I will like to say that anyone who desires a place to harness his or her skills should pay a visit to AfrYPoD.
